Temples

The little boys and I are currently in Utah! My little brother is getting ready to go on a 2 year mission to the Philippines for our church so thanks to some amazing Southwest deals, we were able to fly out to hear his farewell talk and spend time with family.

We took the last flight going from Indianapolis to Salt Lake last Saturday and it worked out pretty nice. We got a good night's rest the night before (as opposed to always walking up at 3am for the early flights), packed and cleaned most the day, left with plenty of time to spare--kids napped in car, and we had dinner with Daddy before taking off. I was really worried now that Cian is mobile, flying would be a nightmare. And well, it wasn't perfect by any means as for all he wanted to do was crawl under seats and up and down the aisle, but both planes were half empty so we had the middle seat open for him to use (making it all possible) and had not too many people to bother with his unhappiness, whenever I grabbed him off the floor.

While in Salt Lake City:

Just opened this year, City Creek Mall. Right across from Temple Square. I remember going to General Conference my Freshman Year at BYU and parking on top of the ZCMI center. It was soon closed and where it once was, is this beauty:

"FISH"

Absolutely gorgeous. And when there's water, there's a wet boy.
He got soaked!

LOVE this picture!

Isn't he adorable?!

We also got tickets for the Brigham City Temple Open House.

Brycen's drive up there.

Simply Beautiful.

Brycen was practically speechless through the whole tour except when he said, "It's Beautiful" upon walking into the Celestial Room.

He sure loved his first time inside the temple.

 Cian did amazingly well too.

Love my boys (and missing my dear hubby).

And my family (those that could come).

Aunt Katie!!

So my sister (and her little one, Liam) came to visit this past weekend and just left Tuesday. Now every time we come home (without her), Brycen says, "Where's Katie?

He sure loves visitors. As with any visitors, we showed her a good time here in Indiana. Such things included:

-->Picnic at the park. We were having PERFECT August weather. It was simply gorgeous. 70 degrees, slight breeze. GREEN grass.

We finally had rain consistently the last couple of weeks and it has revived everything. The drought was so bad this summer, we were declared to be living in a disaster area (due to the loss of crops :( )

-->Tour of Purdue Campus (of course!)

P.S. Purdue's campus is one of my favorites! Up next to the beauty of BYU's.

LOVE the following two pictures.

Perfect picture, yes?

Her very own tour of Bryce's lab, she found it well, as exciting as it could be :)

-->The free, cute, small local zoo. PERFECT for kids.

I always bring a extra set of clothes for Little B.

Meet Mr. Mobile

Who is not a paci baby and can't understand why anyone would be (and repeatedly tries to dislodge from anyone who is not yet convinced).

In with the Wallabees.

--> The best root beer. ever. Dog n Suds!

He has mastered it and loves to do it.
Standing that is, walking--not so much. yet.

Moral of the story: We basically convinced Aunt Katie that Indiana is AWESOME. The best (free) zoo. The best root beer. The best corn and thus, popcorn. The kettle corn from the Farmer's Market is AMAZING. AND the best donuts. Yup, went to Mary Lou's here and she's sold. Who wants to be convinced next?

Oh the places we go!

1. The Fair! Bryce had a BLAST.

He's at the age where he loves to do things by himself and this was the first year he really could.
SOO glad he knew to hold on. The workers just kinda threw him up there with no apparent instructions and the ponies started movin!

I thought for sure he would be freaked out (due to height or speed) but he prevailed--smiling and waving--

and was even disappointed that he wasn't tall enough for some and parentals had to come with him on others.

Gotta love the Scrambler!

Ferris Wheel!

2. Saturday Family Grocery Shopping. I CAN handle going by myself with the boys during the week but when Dad's available to come with, it makes it even better. He watches/pushes the boys and I can focus on what a woman does best---shopping!

This was the first time Cian joined Brycen in the driver seat.
So fun. A free cookie never hurts as well, gotta love Pay Less (AKA Smith's in Utah).

 3. Hiking and Camping.

We found this rare gem in the middle of Indiana.

It's Turkey Run State Park and we were up for an adventure.

We took the more moderate/rugged trails that at some points, involved no real trail--walking along steep rocks and through water and even down ladders!

Probably not necessarily advisable (some lady tried to warn us) for young kids but our kids loved it. Yes, there were times we had to carry them both but it was a blast.
(despite Brycen's face in this picture, he had just fallen down).

And I'm already planning our next trip there. P.S. LOVE the kid backpack!

The best $7.50 Goodwill find ever! All the weight rests on the hips and I almost forgot Cian was back there. Not to mention that he didn't seem to mind it. I may or may not try it out in the kitchen sometime...or at Wal-mart. It actually opens up a can of possibilities :) You know play soccer...volleyball. Jk.

Camping on the other hand...well, Brycen LOVED it. Everything about it. Cooking his hotdog and marshmallow on the fire, sleeping in a tent, playing with his teachers

(some friends joined us that happen to be his Nursery teachers at church), all the sticks and dirt. And well, Cian loved it because now that he is mobile, he had so many leaves, rocks, and dirt at his disposal and stuffing his mouth every chance he got! He was SO dirty. Bryce and I actually had a good time too all except for two things: neither of us slept, and all the work involved to pack/unpack and set up and such for one night. The animals of the park decided to come EXTREMELY close and brush right up against our tent (my head) all night! And then...Cian was pretty restless. As much as we love camping, we are considering trying to find one of those pop-up trailers to buy while we have young kids. We love the fire and atmosphere but need more comfort in dealing with the kiddos.

Swinging. Clapping. Gorgeous weather. Doesn't get better than that!

Redhead Junior

Cian is 9 months old.I seriously think life is permanently fast forwarding right now, and I can't believe how Summer is flying by.

Daddy had a birthday in July! I made him cookie dough chocolate cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and they were a hit!P.S. You thinking their hair color is about the same??

Since my last post on the Cian man, he has done a ton, such as:

-Stands 30 inches tall with and a brain size of 47.7 cm. Both in the 90 something percentile. He only weighs in at 19 lbs 6 oz though so basically less than his older brother was at 4 months old. Long and lean and sometimes I can't help but wonder if he is getting enough to eat (he eats all day!) but his weight percentile went from 30 something to 40 something so I'm proud!

-Got his first tooth the DAY after I posted the last blog of how he had been teething for forever and had nothing to show for it (came in around 7 months old). He now has 4 teeth! And as far as we can tell, they are better than Brycen's! Brycen's top 4 teeth came in yellow (we have several hypotheses as to why, one being that we never gave him Vitamin D Supplement...which we did for Cian!). Cian only has 2 top teeth as of now but they are white. Here's to hoping we have a less dental needed child. Cian finds it quite humorous to get his teeth brushed.

-Still has no tears when he cries. SOO weird. He had them once after we begun his shots at his 9 month appointment, but they were only present in one eye and hasn't had them before then or since. Our doctor is not sure what to think.

-Growing darker by the day! He already came out darker than the rest of us and sitting in the shade with sunblock on, only seems to help the situation. He has a farmer's tan and I can't help but be jealous, especially since he skips the whole sunburning part (which is definitely a good thing!). He is 1/512th Iriquois Indian so that surely, must be it :)

-Knows his name and is very responsive. I just say, "Cian" and he immediately stops everything (the direction he is going, looking, playing with, etc) and looks towards me.

-Says, "Mama!" It's ADORABLE. And he only says it when he sees me. :) As in...he actually knows the meaning of it.

-He LOVES my glasses and successful tears them off my face repeatedly and when he doesn't...he results to Angry Baby. See below.

-Has been crawling since two days before he turned 9 months (out of selfishness on my part, I wanted to say, "Yes!" to those doctor check-up questions) and after the first 24 hours of doing so, he was  pulling himself up on everything and letting go to be left standing. He loves to stand, he gets so excited and usually falls down because of his giggling. He also loves having the freedom to move.

He has recently been walking along the furniture and mastered going upstairs. He has also shown great interest in going downstairs but needs to learn that he can't go head first.

-Got a girlfriend. We like to share a babysitter with her parents and go to Couple's Volleyball night together while Brycen is asleep.

-Like every other baby, loves to stuff his mouth with whatever he finds. His current favorite are the leaves he finds outside.
-In transition from a brunette/blue eye baby to an Auburn/green eyed little man.

-Loves to be carried and brought along. With that, he loves to stand (not sit!) on Daddy's shoulders.

Has discovered Daddy's facial hair and plays with it, so cute to watch.

-Snuggles! He has kinda always done it when he is tired but now when he is picked up after a nap or time spent on the floor after either playing or crying (while Mom is trying to make dinner), or randomly throughout the day, he lays his head on the shoulder/upper chest of the person that picked him up, for moments at a time. It's almost like a "Thank you/I Love You". It always stops me in my tracks and I adore it. He does it for me, Daddy, and even a dear friend of mine that watched him recently.

-He is so shy. Whenever a stranger sends a smile his way, he immediately burrows himself into me while giving his best smile back.

-So curious. The other day I put him on the counter (yes, not recommended,--I know) to buy me some time with two hands, thinking he would love to nibble on a snack and instead, he discovered this:
The grease on the bottom of the pan! He loved having his hands slide all over it. Forget the treat.

-Developed quite the little temper. How do they learn these things?? He is VERY aware of items being taken away or/and a certain older brother trying to block him out to prevent him from preforming bulldozer-like moves on a tower made from blocks. Cian retaliates by either one: throwing his head back and screaming while attempting to retrieve it (definitely the case when he is tired and it's time to clean up like at the library lapsit this morning), or two: headbutting and attempting to bite (never been successful) his way through the human blockade (in the brother scenario).

--LUCKILY, he is still easily distracted and more often then not, is laughing hysterically while spending time/playing peek-a-boo with Brycen and Daddy
.

-We are loving him so much. So so fun.
